South Florida Fishing

Post by cavdad45 » Tue Aug 14, 2007 5:27 pm

Going to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale in a few weeks. I NEED TO GO BASS FISHING! Anyone else been there and have any good suggestions for guides or locations. Not just Okeechobee. Anyone caught any Peacock Bass down there or are they still too small to invest time or guide $$$ for?

I wouldn't target bass too hard unless you get better weather, the summers can be brutal for bass. I'd go for the peacock and saltwater fish, snook and reds. Maybe offshore trip too.

I've never fished in florida but read quite a few articles on the subject and watched some fishing shows and tournaments that were held down there..

Whenever the topic of "timing" came up for bass it seems like the preferred month
was always February. August is apparently summer doldrums time. You can catch bass then but
you gotta be pretty good.

I would ditto what kzoo says. Get out on the saltchuck and work for reds and stuff like that.
Fish doesn't smell "fishy" because it's fish. Fish smells "fishy" when it's rotten.
