Best store bought eggs.....

Post by Jaksonbrown » Thu Oct 28, 2010 5:56 am

Seeing as how I havent managed to catch any hens yet this year...I dont have any eggs to cure up on my own. Can anyone recommend a store bought brand that works? Does such a thing even exist?

Second question... when your drifting eggs under a float... how far do you usually have the eggs under the float? Does water depth make a difference, say for drifting in deeper water? Whats your method of choice?

Thanks.

I have bought eggs fro ma few places and only had luck with one.........to be honest I don't remember the name of them but I got them at the outfitters in Forks. Used them out in the OP and then on the skok as well. had hook ups on both rivers....the crap and wholesale sports sucks......at least the stuff they sell over in Silverdale. I htink if you bought them and maybe did a little recuring they might work out fine

Yes jackson the water you are fishing will be the determining factor on how far down you will drift your eggs, as well as the depth of the fish if you can determine that you are one step closer

How about using cured shrimp? Does anyone have any luck using this method as a substitute for eggs?

What are you targeting? Salmon or Steelies? Just curious.

I havent fished with either shrimp or eggs actually. Im just learning the rivers this fall, but have heard that they have just been slaying the silvers and kings on the Hump back bouncing eggs.

I just booked a guided jet sled fishing trip with Rob Sween of R&K guides for next sat. Really excited to see how the pros do it!

Yeah I used a cured Prawn on the Sol Duc and landed a nice Springer right after Scott landed a beautiful chrome Steelhead on the first cast. So do they work? I guess, it's only worked once for me, so I cant give you a definite answer. Doesnt mean I wont keep trying.

Jacksonbrown, that's a great way to get your feet in the water. Most guides are very knowledgeable and are willing to share a lot.
They do little things that if U aren't sure why they are doing it feel free to ask as long as U aren't bombing them with questions as much as the fish with your offering:cheers:

If you have the guide to yourself or with people you know, ask the guide if he'd not only demonstrate how to fish but spend some time fishing. U wanna see him fish to see how he does it IMO so just watch, you can learn a lot faster IMO watching instead of listening to instruction while fishing.
They often don't get much (any!) time to do their own thing when guiding and having them enjoy part of the trip getting in on it makes it more fun for all IMO. Just my particular opinion but of course U are paying so may wanna get a fish in before letting him in on the action LOL:cheers: .

Hope you have a great trip and learn a bunch regardless of amount of fish in the boat![thumbsup]

Yea, I do hope to get some fish, but this is more of a learning adventure. I have been on the river for weeks now trying everything I have read and learned with NADA results. Its time to bring in the pros!:salut: I love the suggestion to let Rob do some fishing and just watch. I didnt think about that. Good advice! Thank you. Hopefully Ill have some great photos to share after we are done.
