Probably didn't go under the highrise, but the more westerly section that is much closer to the water. Maybe in the dark they thought they were somewhere else along the bridge and obviously messed up.

Boat owner might be singing the following song.

:-({|=

Ding dong my boat is dead
The nighttime boat trip was over my head
Thought I was on open water, ran into a floating bridge instead
The boat, well she became a pontoon instead

Ding dong my boat is dead
My insurance company said I was over my head
Said I should have known it wasn't open water but a bridge instead
Yep my claim was declined by some guy named Fred

Oh yeah and my boat well it still is dead
and my boat is still dead

Ding dong my boat is dead
Got bumps and bruises all over my head
Got a pontoon not a boat and bill from the state instead
After looking at my bank account I decided it's not only the boat that is dead

Ding dong my boat is dead
My wife is screaming at me and I got pain in my head
She said I should have known better that I was way over my head
Yep its not only the boat that is dead

My boat is dead
My boat is dead

Says in the article they were a 38 footer. That's a giant boat, that section of bridge is really low, seems like they should've just went around to the high part. No matter how I try trying to mimagine that big of a boat squeezing under a little part like that seems silly. And a dangerous expensive mistake.

"IF" I just heard the news correctly, alcohol is suspected of being involved. Not a surprise there!

should've guessed. I guess the bridge could look pretty high with some beer goggles on :-"

Well, that just plain sucks. Eh.

I used to run and hide under that section of the bridge and fish for perch when the rains came through. That was when I had a 14' trihull though, I wouldn't recommend trying it with anything larger...

The results look like something you would see in a movie, too bad the cameras weren't rolling.

I hope that the passenger who suffered "life threatening injuries" was ok, and I hope they have both learned a valuable lesson about the dangers of boating, especially a night and while inebriated. I hope that both individuals are healthy and recovering.

It is easy to make light of a situation like this, but it also makes me grateful that I have not gotten into more serious crises on the water than I have.

Now it is being reported that the boat owner is getting a bill for inspection of the bridge and other stuff.

In other news Angler turnout is down 40% at this time for lower Columbia river.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/r ... perce.html

Is it gas costs
No fish
Weather
Time of year
No time to fish?
or Additional fees for fishing the Columbia that is responsible?

Good! The owner should be charged for all that!

As for C River fishing, I'm betting ALL those are playing a factor.

Warms my heart to hear that the tax payers aren't going to be footing the bill on this one.

As for angler turnout on the Columbia, wait till the water warms up a few more degrees.
