What is the oldest post you have on WALakes??

Post by Matt » Fri May 27, 2011 4:17 am

I just got to thinking about how long I have been a WAlaker, and figured it was around 10 years! I looked for what would have been one of my oldest reports and found one from Lake Loma when I was 14 years old (I am now 25), so it turns out it has been 11 years.

I thought it would be fun for others to try and find the OLDEST report they possibly can from their time here at WAlakes.

Here is mine:

Name: Matt
Date: July 06, 2000
Rating:
Time:
Bait:
Tackle:
Color:
Species:
Method:

I am 14 and fish this lake almost every day. I thought I would tell you that there are No Pumpkinseed, or Cutthroat in the lake. There are rainbow trout and bass mostly, last year I had the thrill of landing a Crappie, don't go looking for good Crappie fishing though almost all of the fish are gone, if not all of them. Fishing the traditional Power bait rig or worms from the boat launch has gotten me a limit all 6 days I have been in succession. the rainbows average about 9-12 inches. there is good bass fishing on the lake if you have a boat, there are plenty of docks and lily pads to provide cover for these warm water fish. It is a good bet for some good fishing if you are patient enough!!!

This is a great thread, Matt. LOL. I will have to look up some history. I will say that for 14... you seemed to have better spelling than a lot of current 40 y/o's, lol.

Wow, I've only been aware of this website for a little over a year now. My first report was on stump lake. If I'd've known about this place when I was a kid I'd have known a lot more stuff than I do now. We used a map (paper) and a compass and left not knowing what to expect. Never knew what you'd catch or what they wanted.

An amazing two days at this lake. Caught wild rainbows, a limit, fishing from a fallen log on the north west side of the lake. There were lots of people out fishing, but plenty of fish to go around. My brother was casting a fly, my dad threw a spinner, we trolled for a bit, but the fish really wanted power bait on the bottom. These wilde fish could really fight, our biggest was 21.5 inches, but it fought like a steelie. Four pound test line with power bait on about a six foot leader works best. This little lake is a treasure. There's not very much shore access, so bring a machete if your planning to not boat it, but the fish appreciate the extra effort of bushwhacking through to the perfect spot. Lots of little newts that are actually pretty good fighters if you fish a worm on the bottom. Caught a couple little guys that way.

Sickbayer... Can I just make a silly comment?? It is funny how when you talk to people online all the time, or read their posts... you sort of develop a mental pic. of who they are. So, you talk about length of time on a website, etc. I've been looking at your Avitar for maybe 2 years.... I keep thinking that you are Jack Black, (or whoever that dude in your avitar is, LOL!!)
Sorry Matt.... thread is back in your court.

Quad....you can make a silly comment although I am agreeing with your post being funny and true to me? I also agree with developing mental pictures of whom you talk to online. Kinda why i like to hang out with some of thoses people and this site. You know maybe me and you should go out do some fishing this weekend?

Sorry to hijack your thread mate.

[Edit Report]Fished from 7-9 am both trolling and still fishing. Had one light tap while trolling. The water clarity is quite poor. We saw no one else having any better luck.

This was back when WashingtonLakes.com was actually not WL.com, but a thread of NWFishing.com, the first fishign site I found on the web. I contacted the owner and suggested having a lake reports section and he said "why don't you make one?" It was just called lake reports. Two years later I started WL.com. The rest is history...

Wife, dogs and I ran down to Waverly Park for a sunset picnic dinner. After eating, my wife read, the dogs slept and I fished from about 7-9pm. There was a steady breeze and the water was a little choppy. There were two other guys that started fishing at the same time I did. I got a couple little perch and they picked up 3 or 4 perch and a squawfish. Not a lot of excitement but a nice evening. This was our 1st time there - nice little park.

I remember being hesitant to post because I didn't want to sound like an idiot - now I don't care if I sound like an idiot:geek:

Hit the 520 bridge area late morning with the kid and his friend. The north side wasn't giving us any joy so we switched to the southside and found fish at around 40 feet down with consistent hook-ups about center bridge. Kept 3 Cutts and 1 Koke, released 3 Cutts and 1 Koke. The trout we kept were between 16" and 19", nice and fat and loaded with 1" long Stickleback, which would explain why the smaller of the spoons we were using was getting the most action. The Koke we kept was about 13" long and had a few sea lice still attached, must have been a jack?

The description of Horseshoe Lake says that it is a shallow lake, when in fact there is a portion of the lake that is not shallow. It is true that the majority of the lake is shallow, but the S. E. portion is not. The last time that I fished it I had my fish finder and the deepest reading I got was 50 feet. While fishing over that area I picked up readings of fish laying about 12-15 ft down. Some of them appeared to be larger fish.

Very fast fishing this morning. Had many bite and had four on within and 90 minutes. However, I only landed a single 10 incher. One of the fish that got off looked like it was a good foot or so. I will be back.

That didn't paste quite in the same form it was copied but I sure seemed proud of a 10 inch trout, didn't. Man, I need to get back out and do more fishing. I had a thing going where I was tracking my personal bests in terms of number and size of trout per season. I still really only fish for trout. I think it's time I learned another fishery.

Hit up the local lakes, especially Sammamish, for some perch and smallmouth, they are great fried and become real easy to catch in the summer months. If we get another strong run of pinks this year, you gotta give it a go as well!

This was the earliest report I could find from yours truly. I was new to the site and went by Dave V for a short period of time before changing my “handle” to Dave. Like many, I enjoyed the site as a guest for several years before finally joining in 2007. Man how time flies!

A friend and I went to Heart lake at about 1:30pm. We trolled
cray fish and grass hopper lures and knocked em dead. These fish
hit very hard and put up a great fight. Every fish felt like a
lunker. Others were trolling flies and misc lures with no luck.
We saw a couple of boats with fish on using what appeared to be
power bait. This lake produced good fishing and the key was finding
the color and action that interested the fish which we were able to
do right off the bat. The fish finder was also a great help as we
just kept trolling over the schools of fish receiving numerous strikes
and 9 fish in about three hours. Because our lures had small treble hooks
we missed several strikes and had three up to the boat before they
spit the hook and swam away. All were in the half pound range
and about 12 to 14 inches.

Some time in July '09 when I joined. Maybe I can find it. It was 1 or maybe 2 weeks before the picnic/fishing derby at Sammamish.
