Cabela's In Marysville

Post by Dave » Sat Jun 11, 2011 9:12 pm

I searched the forums today and didn't see anything about Cabela's coming to Marysville, specifically Tulalip so I thought I'd post this just in case it was missed.

Cabela's store coming to Tulalip area in 2012 with construction beginning soon
Posted by Mark Yuasa

Cabela's Inc. is spreading its wings and has announced their plans to start construction this year with a finish date of 2012 on a store in the Tulalip area.

The 110,000-square-foot store will be located within Quil Ceda Village on the Tulalip Tribes Indian reservation adjacent to Marysville about 30 miles north of Seattle along Interstate 5.

This will be the second Cabela's store in Washington, joining the Lacey location which opened in 2007. The company operates 33 stores throughout the United States and Canada.

Quil Ceda Village was established in 2001 as the first federally recognized tribal city in the country.

"On behalf of the Tulalip Tribes, we welcome Cabela's into this valuable partnership, which marks the historic occasion of the first Cabela's store to be planned for opening on a Native American reservation," Mel Sheldon, chairman of the Tulalip Tribes said in a news release. "This is a proud day as Tulalip adds Cabela's to the unique Quil Ceda Village mix of entertainment, shopping and dining, which will create an exciting synergy that will spur additional economic growth throughout the North Snohomish County area. Cabela's is the perfect fit for this destination location."

The building's exterior will reflect Cabela's traditional store model with log construction, stonework, wood siding and metal roofing. The inside will highlight the company's next-generation layout, which is designed to immerse customers in the outdoor experience and includes conservation-themed wildlife displays and trophy animal mounts. Construction is expected to start later this year.

"Washington is rich with outdoor recreation opportunities, and many people in this area are longtime Cabela's catalog and Internet customers," said Cabela's Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner. "So we're excited to open another store in the Evergreen State, making our services even more accessible to its hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts."

Quil Ceda Village also includes Walmart, The Home Depot and Seattle Premium Outlets as well as several restaurants, an amphitheater and the Tulalip Resort Casino.

Well, I prefer to drive N. rather than South... and I suppose it is a little closer. I feel kind of stuck in the middle.:-({|=

Yeah, I figured since Cabela's was south, Bass Pro would open up north (maybe Cabela's figured that out too). My mom told me about it yesterday - wherever she heard it the store wasn't going to be a big as the Lacey one, it would carry the same stuff, but not have the aquarium & cafe.

The good thing is the new store is 20 minutes away. The bad thing is thats its 20 minutes away. The location is a great fit for both Cabelas and the tribe. It has high viability from the freeway with 2 access interchange points from I-5. Adding Cabelas to the mix with the casino, Walmart, the outlet mall, Home Depot, and the rest of the retail mix really creates a destination spend. Plus don't forget all the Canadian license plates that will fill the parking lots. Their dollar is currently worth more than ours, no tax, and prices that are less than north of the border. Easy I-5 access for the Canadians without having to deal with the crappy Seattle traffic.
Bass Pro was never going to happen. The NW fishing communities demographics doesn't fit their business model.
If its stocked similar to the Lacey store the local fishing shops should be OK as Cabelas stocks to cover all US, Canada, and a lot of world fisheries. Cabelas gun department will make the local shops shed a lot of their margins if they want to stay in business. What I like about Cabelas is that they stock outdoor clothing in tall sizes. Not everyone is a midget 40 regular!

Well, it's close for me so my wife and I will enjoy it without having to drive 2 hours south. I find Cabela's to be pricy unless you find it on sale or in the bargain cave but for my wife and I, it's the experience. It's just fun to walk through and look at everything they have.

According to the Herald article, "The inside will highlight the company's next-generation layout, which is designed to immerse customers in the outdoor experience and includes conservation-themed wildlife displays and trophy animal mounts." So I'm sure it will be very nice inside.

Glad one is going to be up north... sad that it is that far north. Would have preferred N. Seattle, Lynnwood, Edmonds.... But at least we will have one up a bit closer...

Another Cabelas is just plain rediculous if you ask me. Granted I live VERY close to the one in Lacey, but as stated before, a Gander Mt or Bass Pro Shops would be more beneficial. Alls they are doing is competing with themselves and giving us a bit of redundency.

Redundency? Look at walmart. There is a few cities I know that Have multiple walmart locations. Thats redundent. Now having 2 stores in 1 state is just spreading your goods around to new buyers and some old that might not drive so far. I know I dont go to cabelas as much as Id like to and Its only an hour away or so. Id rather wait till I do a fishing trip and catch it on the way home. Im usually leaving my house when stores closed. Its smart business on their part. Washington is a fishing and hunting state. Well its an outdoors state really. Thats the only reason I put up with this damn weather we get. Because it makes it soo darn pretty the rest of the time around here. Rei and Cabelas are the two stores that just fit right in washington.
More fish please!

I find it interesting that they are building on the Indian Reservation. Their choice of location leads me to believe there is only one reason...taxes. When they were looking at locations in the Spokane and Post Falls region, they had two areas in mind, one on the east side of the river in Idaho and one across the river in Washington. I believe they chose Idaho because of taxes.

It's funny you bring up Walmart. They just completed a huge Walmart next to Cabela's. What blows me away is that there is already another store about 3 miles east on I-90 in Post Falls. It seems that Walmart's business strategy is to follow the big box stores like Home Depot, Lowes and Cabela's. This practice is interesting. When Ray Kroc started McDonald's, he set a rule in the company that all outlets had to be within a couple of blocks from a church. Of course this has changed over the decades with McDonald's in shopping malls and airports, but if you look at some of the old original locations, there is a church very close by. Wendy's also seems to follow Home Depot.

I think another reason for putting a Cabela's up there is the Canadian Shoppers. They bring them to the outlet mall there by the busload (literally) and the last time I was up there, 1/2 of the cars in the parking lot had Canadian plates.

The people who cant or dont want to drive to Cabelas do what every other person does. Shops online. Comparing Cabelas to Walmart is very different. Walmart just sucks.:-" Placing a different store, like Gander MT or B.P.S would draw in just as much people as the lone Cabelas has in Lacey. Placing multiple outdoor shops worked well for GI JOES and Sportsmans Wharehouse. I personally think a different store would be more profitable.
