Outboard throttle.

Post by tnj8222 » Wed Jul 27, 2011 1:39 am

My throttle for my 1994 90 horse johnson wont go into reverse and neutral is pushing me forward. Any advice? Gonna try to fix it before I buy a new throttle. Im hoping I just got a messed up cable.

So, what happens when the throttle is placed in the forward position? Will it move forward? Could be stretch in the cable. Disconnect the cable at the motor. Check that the motor shifts into F-N-R manually. Then check for cable movement at the shift lever. That would help isolate the issue. May just need a cable adjustment, a control box, cable, or any combination of the three.

Was expecting around 500. But yes buying a older boat is a money pit.

In the grand scheme of things $500 is about a monthly payment on a new one so if your spending that on it once or twice a year its not that big of a deal. If its every month then trade it in.](*,)

So, what was needed to complete the repair? Was the shop reasonable when vacuuming out your wallet?

A pin came out the held the arm in place that shifts. Replaced pin and hooked it back up properly for no charge. They also inspected my boat for other posible problems for no charge. Great guys! Bringing them some more bussiness my brother in laws boat wont start, so he is taking it there today.

Great people, great shop, awesome mechanic! Highly recomend limit out marine!
