Re: gearing up for some Ho's
Something else I will do if old stand by's are not working is to use a small glob of eggs or even easy eggs below a float but I also will use a small pink painted egg weight above that, a small red bead and then a Colorado blade above that... In the current it looks like a small fish stealing eggs.... OMG will they hammer this.... A wee dick nite with red head will do the same effect....just gotta pinch on some lead on the leader to get into the strike zone...

Re: gearing up for some Ho's
that is a good idea, I like using beads or pink bait weights with my eggs for silvers.
Re: gearing up for some Ho's
I just never buy bait weights.... I have a crap load of powder coating and vinyl jig paint so I just buy egg weights and color them up.... I also tie 90% of my own jigs so it gives me something to do when in the man cave at night.

Me too. I got the stainless steel wires and a ton of beads from Jann's Netcraft and bought several lots of spin-glos off ebay and sit in front of the tv while I'm bored and make spin glo rigs.

yeah it can be fun but all the componets to make spinners are expensive unless you buy them in bulk and I can not find french blades half the time either ](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

Re: gearing up for some Ho's
I'm hoping to hit up the mouth of the Quil Labor Day weekend for some coho barbless jig fishing (hoping Sunday).
Brat bonker- what size (weight) jig do you pull thru that skinny water? Seems it would have to be some ultralight gear to keep from spooking coho in that little stream but if it works it works
I'd recommend heading to the mouth/salt and try jigs out there.
Which leads me to ask- has anyone seen how muddy it is out there these days at the mouth? Been awhile for me.

Re: gearing up for some Ho's
I use a .250 shot slinky with a bout 3 to 5 balls and 2-3ft leaders. On the jigs I use 1/4 to 3/8 oz jigs, I just fish deeper water like 3 to 7ft holes in there if there is no people in them though. They legitly like beads though, only prob is that they bite really softly, I will start to really in and all of a sudden I will feel a fish shaking it head trying to dislodge the bead which they do 60% of the time because of my poor hook sets.
They mouth is a little tricky to get out there now, it cahnged last year so I stopped going down there plus more access up top. I will for sure see you there labor day weekend unless I am limited by 8am again![ThumbsUp [thumbsup]](./images/smilies/msp_thumbsup.gif)

Re: gearing up for some Ho's
I prefer pencil lead over slinkys myself but di fish slinkys as they have there place.... Just seem to like the feel better, but like I say personal preference..... Small trout beads and glow beads are deadly in clear water...

Re: gearing up for some Ho's
yeah I have had good success with glow beads in the deeper pools. The quilcene is really rocky and snaggy so the pencil wts. or cannonballs get stuck to much so I opted to smaller size slinkies and split shots that slide over the rocks.

Re: gearing up for some Ho's
thanks snipe only prob is that I am looking for tackle shop places, after shipping and everything it gets pricey, just going to stick with wholesale sports stuff I guess but I will keep those 2 sites in mind.

Love Yeagers, one of my faves when I lived up north. If you don't know where to find it, just look a Yeagers and it's probably 50% off!! ![ThumbsUp [thumbsup]](./images/smilies/msp_thumbsup.gif)

Re: gearing up for some Ho's
brat bonker-hook line and sinker in arlington, right off I5 over by what was a buzz inn, but they just made it a casino. They have componets for fair price.
Re: gearing up for some Ho's
I live right next to there and never shop there... I can get stuff cheaper other places, the kids that work there have been rude to my other half and I refuse to give them my business...goodtimesfishing wrote:brat bonker-hook line and sinker in arlington, right off I5 over by what was a buzz inn, but they just made it a casino.
