Post by drysuperfly52 » Tue Sep 11, 2012 7:54 am

we are debating going up hiking and staying the night somewhere in a couple weeks, we are looking at pilchuck because they have an enclosed watch tower. does anyone else know of any "like" hikes that wont have the same numbers of people all over the place.

Its not local but there is a fire watch tower on Mt Spokane State Park that you can rent and stay at.

All of the lookouts I've seen the last 20 years have been drive ups and when not inhabited have the steel door on the steel floor well secured. Pretty sure they don't want anybody climbing around and camping in them as a general rule.

gotta reserve this ahead of time i think but we stayed at the Blewitt Pass A-Frame this winter. sled in sled out in snow.. it was awesome.. its at 6k+ ft.. in the summer you can drive to it.. just up the road from it is some sensational views.. you could even see the cle elum fires ;)

nothing like timing working out.. waking up to fresh snow and some of the sickest sled accessed runs in Washington 5 minutes to dropping in from the cabin steps..

superfly.
the cabin has no running water or heat.. just a wood burning stove.. it can sleep 8 to 10 comfortably or a small family just fine. its nestled back in the woods and off the main path,,. for an authentic mountain top rustic cabin stay its so worth reserving NOW for next summer. its super cheap to, like $60 a night or something.. we have it booked a weekend this winter coming up again.. I highly recommend it!

For nice hikes go up to Verlot theres a ranger station there (with beautiful wood blinds) . They have maps of the local hikes. Its where the Ice Caves are. Theres a long hike called "The Monte Christo". I think its the North Cascade Hiway. I think. Nonethe less is really nice up there.

Really just about anywhere in Washington is beautiful. Eastern or Western Wa is a wonderful playground.
