Woo Hoo.... Just bought a new to me boat
Woo Hoo.... Just bought a new to me boat
So Ive been wanting a small aluminum boat for a while now. My buddy bought a new boat and sold me his 15' smokercraft alaskan with a mercury 25 hp 4 stroke tiller...... I know he has babied this boat and serviced it regularly. It has scotty electric downriggers, Lowrance FF, rod holders , etc..... I got a kick @$$ deal and cant wait to fish it.... taking the stupid boaters coarse now,
Re: Woo Hoo.... Just bought a new to me boat
Congrats on the new boat. That boater's course is a pain in the ass ... I did the 75-question take-home version and most of those questions are not applicable at all for me. Have fun haha.
Re: Woo Hoo.... Just bought a new to me boat
They should have 3 tests, 1 for those who boat in salt water, 1 for those who boat in fresh water, and 1 for those who boat in both fresh and salt. LOTS of the questions have nothing to do with fresh water boating.

And they (the State) should divide the test into three sections for your convenience? Hmmmmm, set aside administrative costs tripling for operating the program, last time I checked the reasoning behind the boaters Ed card was not convenience but to educate the unlearned masses on operating on the water. Please take note I didn't say operate a boat because it has a lot more to do with just conducting yourself on the water than actual boat operation. The biggest thing it does is keep under 20's running lake lice off the water, baring that, it provides a revenue stream. The test itself is about as watered down and weak as it gets. With no studying, I was able to just sit down and bang it out on the first try, the only question I missed was how much water one is supposed to drink to stay hydrated. So if I can pass the test, only missing 1 question, it just can't be that hard, not to mention, I didn't really see any questions that weren't applicable despite the salinity of the body of water. Just curious, what questions do you feel justify splitting the program by three?Amx wrote:They should have 3 tests, 1 for those who boat in salt water, 1 for those who boat in fresh water, and 1 for those who boat in both fresh and salt. Supposedly there is a question on what and where/how far out to sea, you can dump stuff like hospital/medical waste and such that has nothing to do with freshwater or even fishing. I might still have that e-mail, or maybe it was a PM. Don't see it, so I guess I deleted it.Bodofish wrote:And they (the State) should divide the test into three sections for your convenience? Re: Woo Hoo.... Just bought a new to me boat
Well, like I said, it's not really about operating a boat on any water. It's more about how to conduct ones self on the water. Since we claim a 12 mile jurisdictional limit, so farther out than 12 miles is international waters (the tax stamp on booze and tobacco is not needed.), I'm going to say 25 miles. Makes sense don't it? yeah, I know, you have to take garbage out farther than we have right to control....... lot of countries claim a 200 mile limit but the US does not recognize a 200 mile limit anywhere, hence our 12 mile limit. We want to be able to stick our noses in anywhere.

It does..... I'm working on side load guides for my trailer today... Only thing my buddy never added to this package ... So I got a 2003 Smokercraft Alaskan 15' , 2003 mercury 25 HP 4 stroke, trailer, 2 Scotty electric DR, lowrance ff/GPS , all for $2500.00.... Made side guides for less than $20.00.... I would say I got a good fishing set up for a while.
