Next weekend

Post by FishBaitThe2nd » Sat Jun 01, 2013 9:01 pm

Next weekend gonna go toss a line for steel.
Gonna try to see if my grandpa will take me up to the sky at reiter maybe. If not probably the nooch.
How big is this section of the river?
Also, I was reading reports and looks like all everybody uses is bobber/jigs, or bobber/shrimp.
Can someone help me with setting this up? Ive never fished with bobber for steel.Or in this river. How far up does my bobber stop need to be?Highway or hatchery side, and how much bank access? Any info on fishing reiter will be appreciated. Tight lines.

Isn't 12 and 10 a little heavy for summer runs though? Preference I guess. I personally never go over 10lb mainline for summers. Not trying to start an argument or anything. Just saying, that during low water conditions, summer runs get pretty line shy.

Check out steelheaduniversity.com. Everything you need to know is under the education tab. The hole is about 100 yards long, from the intake down to the tailout. It stretches above the intake but few people fish there. From the highway side, you dont have to wait until 6am (but everybody else doesnt either). When the crowds are in, get there early and wait an hour for dawn to fish, or fish in moonlight. Good luck

This time of year, I try and drift fish and fish with spoons as much as I can up there. When the river level drops a bit I'll bust out the float rod, because it becomes difficult to drift fish without getting hung up constantly. As long as the river is running over 6000 CFS I'll almost always fish the hatchery side. When it drops lower than that I'll usually fish the highway side.

Also, if theres any other reccomendations on where to fish on the sky ill take them too, I don't like huge rivers (wideness).

I run 10lb 8lb when the water is low and clear. The water is not low and clear right now.

My favorite setup when the river is looking good is a 1 oz. beau mac sneaker float, 1 oz. in line weight, 10 lb. fluorocarbon leader, and #1 or #2 octopus hook with a dime sized chunk of roe(I like to cure mine with Atlas-Mikes red Alaska premier bait powder).

Same with me. Last year some days when the river was down, there would be about 6 or 7 fish caught on the highway side and none on hatchery side after 1st light.
BTW-Anyone tried mad river soft plastic eggs? They look like they'd be great for low water, but I haven't really heard much about them.

Im gonna fish on the hatchery side. It opens at 6am right?
And how far up should my bobber stop be? I don't know how deep it is there.

Yeah, just typing in the hatchery will probably get you to the right place. There'll be a sign that says the road is closed to through traffic ahead, then you'll go over a little creek(Hogarty) and the side road that goes to the hatchery is about 20' past there. If you're going on the weekend I'd say to get there about an hour or so early so you can get a good spot. And you'll want to get out of you're car and down there quick(like, bring your track spikes quick;).

Lol im skipping school on Friday so there will be a bit less people! Do I turn on the side road that goes to the hatchery?
Thanks for the info. From what I see on here the fishing seems to be good there right now so hopefully it will be the same Friday. Im gonna start with bobber and jig, and will probably put half a sand shrimp on it hopefully ill get one.

I'll probably skip school sometime next week to get out there too. Nothing worse than coming home from and finding out people were slaying. [crying]
Yeah, you'll turn onto the road and just stop when you get to the end of the line of cars. If you're there 1st, I guess you should just stop at the sign that says it's closed at dark. Never ended up being there 1st, guess I'm to lazy.lol

Probably going to take Friday off too since I've got a half day at school. I'll say hi if I see you.
