Post by Maurice » Mon Nov 26, 2007 9:59 am

Please help. I have been using corkys and yarn with no success. what am I doing wrong. I am using a drift setup with a wieghted snubby were the leader to the hook and corky and yarn are. my leader has been 18-36 inches long and has made no difference. am I using to much yarn, The yarn is about 3 inches long then folded over the hook enough to cover the hook, the cork has been of various colors above the hook and yarn. The yarn I have used has been chartruse or pink, I even tried black lately with no luck. I have fished within 10 feet of others and there cathing fish on both sides and me Nothing, Can anyone give me a few pointers?

Maurice-

I hear your frustration...I have been in the same situation on a few occasions. What size and colors of corkies are you using? I am sure there is a river expert floating around here, but in my experience I have had more success if I change colors often. I might start out with a chartreuse or pink setup, but eventually will change to various combinations if the fish aren't biting what I am throwing out. Could be anything from a firetiger and glow ball corkie with a chartreuse bead and yarn to a pink spin-n-glow with a bit of hot pink yarn. There have even been times I have tried less "flash", by using just a corkie or two and nothing else.

Also, something to consider is the size of the presentation and the presentation itself. Opinions may vary, but try a smaller chunk of yarn. A piece about an inch and a half is about as big as I like to go. You could also try rigging differently. By that I mean put your weight on about a twelve to eighteen inch dropper so your bait is off the bottom and right in their face. Might think about moving...move twenty yards or so either upstream or down and cover more water. Unless you're combat fishing...then I would throw on a two ounce weight, cast across everyone's line, exclaim "FISH ON!!" and reel in like crazy....I'm just kidding, don't do that.

Check out the river forum as there is quite a bit of information with regards to....well, river fishing. Good Luck!

What leahcim_dahc said. Shorten up the yarn, try downsizing your corkie, etc. Small variables...Maybe your using too much or too little weight.

And if your fishing for Chums, they aren't exactly all that thick out there this year, so it might be that theres not as many fish in the area your fishing as their should be...

Ive tried various brighter colors of corkys, red, pink, orange, green, white. usually with either chartrues or pink yarn. Even tried a green and white spin n glo to no avail. maybe the wieght, never used a dropper line before may give that a try.
