If you want to dig them yourself, the mud flats between mukilteo and everett are loaded with them. but this time of year, y you will need to dig them on an evening/darkness low tide.

Do you just shove one of those metal clam tubes down in the sand when the water is low? I've never actually tried digging them up so I don't know jack about them, is there a limit on them?
Snoho is the other direction from the fishing grounds i plan on hitting with shrimp. But I will keep it in mind thank you!

Re: Sand Shrimp please!
Made me curious, page 132 in the regs, no min size, limit 10 dozen. Does anyone know an area in mid-south puget sound to hit to dig them yourself? Will have to look around.
Re: Sand Shrimp please!
They have a show or tell, what ever you want to call it kinda like a razor clam. At least thats how it is ovwr on the coast. Nevwr got em in the sound. But on the coast they are above the clam beds and are fairly easy to harvest.

Look for the holes/volcanoes in the sand, where there are concentrations of hundreds of them. The clam tube works fine. I've also used a pitchfork--real easy to get them if they are near the surface--just stick the fork in the mud and scoop it out to reveal the critters.
You'll need a shellfish license to gather them.

Having a brain fart but theres a shop in Lynwood. Its a tackle shop. Just forgot the name lol.
Fishing isn't a hobby, It isn't for fun. Fishing is life.
Re: Sand Shrimp please!
ive collected some from the sound before, you can use the clam pumps, garden tools or really anything haha, i like the pumps because theyre fun haha, then i put them in a big plastic container of seaweed, sand and seawater and they can last a good while
Re: Sand Shrimp please!
That is where we used to go get them probably 20 or more years ago. That area is absolutely thick with them. And S_E_G is right about the tide/time sometimes we used to go out in the middle of the night and then go straight to the river to hit first light. You got to get out past where your gun stops making contact with any rocks. That's about where we started hitting them and would just poke holes here and there until we reached the water. It is actually damn near as fun as fishing itself. Also I'm sure that you know this already but be careful when you reach blindly into a hole you just poked a fresh sand shrimp with the white claws have a hell of a pinch to them. I can't quite remember the name of the park that we used to go to but I will look it up and get back to you.Shad_Eating_Grin wrote:fear_no_fish wrote:Where can a man get some sand shrimp around Lake Stevens/Everett even Marysville if I have too. Re: Sand Shrimp please!
It is Harborview Park and is between Mukilteo and Everett. I did go there with my wife a couple years ago and the access down to the water was closed.
Re: Sand Shrimp please!
If you go to dig for sand shrimp dont go to Harborview park there is no access there. If you look on google maps just east of there is Howarth park which has a walking bridge to cross the tracks. I have never dug for them but have always been interested. I know Mike and neat treat have a video about it on the coast. You might call Johns sporting goods in everett off of broadway or Harbour marine I know they carry some bait just not sure of sand shrimp. Good luck.
Re: Sand Shrimp please!
The rail road has there area below this park blocked off. Ive brought equipment down there when the mud slides happened south of Mukilteo.mallard83 wrote:It is Harborview Park and is between Mukilteo and Everett. Another license to dig them up? I've probably spent 100 this year just for fishing licenses of the sort and I still have to go spend more to get another punch card.
But thanks for the info guys, maybe if I really get into fishing shand shrimp I will start digging them up but for now I will just buy them.

Re: Sand Shrimp please!
I used to get them in B'ham bay on the way to the Nooksack. We'd just turn over the piles of eel grass and stuff tangled on the beach and there they were. We'd grab enough for a days fishing in about ten minutes.

Re: Sand Shrimp please!
and you can just reach them by hand as well. I usually just dig down with my hands, because I harm less that way. They are easy to harvest, but the only places I know that sell 'em are on the Columbia.

Re: Sand Shrimp please!
If you have the combo license, sandshrimp would be covered by the shellfish license included in the combofear_no_fish wrote:Another license to dig them up? I've probably spent 100 this year just for fishing licenses of the sort and I still have to go spend more to get another punch card.

Re: Sand Shrimp please!
I didn't get a shellfish license this year. Pretty much every other one you can get though.
