I just got a boat and am itching to take it out on the Sound. Obviously new to fishing in the sound (done some crabbing, shrimping, and fishing for flounders, but that's about it). Per the regs Chinook opens June 1-Dec 31 and Lingcod May 1-June 15.
Any advice for trolling for Chinook in marine area 11? Depth, speed, bait?
What about lingcod?

Not sure about the Chinook, but for the Lings, you'll need to find some structure and stay above it. Do you have a fish finder, or depth finder that will show structure on the bottom? Stay over the structure and drop your jig to the bottom...as soon as it hits bottom, bring it up a crank or two and jig for them.

And if you ever have an open seat (or 2), let me know. Me and my fishing buddy would chip in for gas.

For good places to fish read the saltwater reports on this site. Also check out SalmonUniversity.com for maps, tips and all sorts of great info on salmon fishing all over the sound. He also has info on the lings.kyamukun wrote:I just got a boat and am itching to take it out on the Sound. In short - for salmon try the clay banks and dalco point and the slag pile and browns point. For lings, try the slag pile just outside the marina entrance and a ways east along the rocks (avoid the ferry lane!!) or just north of the Narrows bridge on the east side and near point evans on the west side. South of the bridge try the toliva shoal for lings.
Double check your regs - salmon is closed in area 11 until June 1st. Its open in area 13.
All of those places are on various maps at salmon university.

By the way, if you decide to venture up north for salmon or lings - its much much better fishing up north - check out Johnssportinggoods.com He has tons of maps on where to fish for lings, salmon, halibut, crab and shrimp from area 10 on up. He doesn't get down south much
He also has a bunch of videos and newsletters well worth the time to read.
Good luck!!
