recruitment

Post by fishaholictaz » Wed Apr 30, 2008 9:13 pm

I drove around to some of the local lakes today bass fishing from shore and handed out at least 10 cards! I talked to the guys and they seemed interested! This site would really rock instead of just rock if we could get people really involved

Mike just sent me 20 more of his business cards. Handed 30 out already and 8 joined cause of it. It works well. Good job BBZ. This really is the best way to spread the word. It'd also be nice to see more people in the forums contributing and I think we're headed in that directions already, which is a positive sign.

The forums got me addicted to this site. I've always looked at the site just to look at the reports but then a few months ago I saw that there were forums and ever since ths has been my favorite website. Im trying to get the word out, but havent seen to many people to try and recruit.

Used to always read the reports and what not, several years back. Joined the forums when they were with PP, and then got this account when the new WL.com came out and have been on the forums ever since...

Here's a little quote from the guy who started the "Pine Lake" thread in the freshwater section a few days ago

I must have missed something. I would love to get some business cards to pass out at lakes. How do I go about getting these?

There are quite a few people that are cautious of entering the forum and for good reason. 8-[ It is an unchartered ocean to them. When you enter into a forum, you are basically leaving yourself vulnerable and open to attack. Believe me, I have had a few shots taken at me. #-o Many people are uncomfortable with that.

Also, keep in mind that there are many people that have virtually no keyboard skills. They never learned how to type. When all you can do is "hunt and peck":-k  , writing on a forum is a very time consuming task.

I think that the important issue to keep in mind is that they are interested in the site. Although some will not participate in the forum, they will most likely tell other people about the site and perhaps they will join and participate.

[quote="bigbasstaz"]I was thinking of making another post for]

I think that is a great idea. I found WL probably five years ago, it must have just started up. I popped onto it from time to time to check information about various lakes I planned on fishing, and then last spring, I found the forum and got addicted... Until the fall and winter (which I'm sure most of y'all noticed). I work 60 hour weeks during the fall and winter, so for several months I didn't really get to do any fishing, and didn't have the time to post. But, things are back to normal at work now, and I'm back to fishing, and have plenty of time to hang out with all of my buddies on WL.com. Cheers!

Oh and thanks for the info Sam. I already pm'd mike for some cards. I'll get those babies passed out as well. I can't imagine that any state has a website quite like ours....? At lest not one that is this complete, coherant, organized and so socialized. I think this is a pretty darn unique site, and the fishermen of Washington should be prevlidged to have such a valuable asset:cheers:

I have handed out about half the cards. On opening weekend.Whats weird is when someone recongnizes you from pictures you post on here.Has happened to me twice already.Once while fishing by Curly Creek for Salmon and again at my normal lake I fish Island Lake.Kinda cool when that happens.

The incentive to file a report is thet there is a drawing for fishing prizes every month and the names drawn from are the reports made that month.

Maybe a banner on the home page instead of just a non-descript tab. I did not notice the tab for a long time when I first started reading the site. It was by accident that I found out about the prize drawing.

I think that if that were more zealously advertised it would be a greater incentive...just a thought.
