Down Sizing Photos!

Post by BassinBomber » Thu Jul 03, 2008 6:46 am

Well I'm all for the Premium Membership that is on it's way,..but what I would like to see is maybe something WL.com could include in the website that would Downsize Photos so that WL.com would accept when you upload your photos. I keep getting the message "cannot accept files that large" or something to that effect and I can never Upload my photos,..any suggestions? I tried Downloading on the Internet some sites that allow you to edit your photos w/no luck,..I figure if WL.com had this feature on thier website then that would be 1 less step for the member or guest,...just a thought,..anyways I look forward to the Premium Membership,..thanks guys!

It would probably require more software to be run on the server. Which could cause serious bottlenecks...and other issues that would eventually be a pain in the...well you get the idea. IIRC, Aaron pointed to someone some time ago, a program that comes with Windows that lets you scale images. Search through the forums, I'm sure it will pop up. Or you could try a number of other image manipulation programs that will do it. Gimp, Photoshop, etc., etc.. Gimp is open source, meaning freely distributed and used under the GNU General Public License. It does just about everything Photoshop will do...but free.

"Microsoft Office Picture Manager" will do it. If you have Microsoft Office that is...

Personally I use ACDSee (http://www.acdsee.com) The features I use most are the BATCH resize and rename. Makes quick work of whole directories of photos. I keep my camera in the max rez and have a phat mem card in it, I get alot if pics stored up and it would take forever to deal with otherwise with out the BATCH features.

I use this - it works great, is fast, and can do batches. It makes new copies resized and leaves the originals alone. And it's free.

OK, so you've install the picture resizer. Then all you do is right click over a picture file in your computer. On the menu list will be an option to "Resize Pictures". Click on it and it gives you various size options or you can customize the size. The link I provided has all the information you need to get started.

I also downloaded that application Mike. It works great and allows us to post a pic that actually fits. Good stuff.

Just what I needed Mike (and at the right price too!) Now I can resize my pics at home and not sneak em onto my work computer to do it:-$

Thanks!

I use a program called Irfan View. Its really easy to use, just open the photo, go to Image, hit resize, type in the dimensions, and your done. Its also really easy to crop, just highlight what you want, go to edit, and hit crop. It also loads super quick.
Just Google it.
