BASSACKWARDS - VOTED "MOST CREATIVE HANDLE"

Post by fishnislife » Sun Jul 01, 2007 12:36 am

I figured with all the interesting member names around here that it would be cool to explain how you came up with yours.
Of coarse there are the ones that are actual names and simple to figure out, but enliten us all on why you chose your name.

I know the "Surpreme Overlords" are going to have to think long and hard about this one. But don't get frazzled if you can't remember.

My tag name FISHNISLIFE came to me when I was thinking about getting a personalized licence plate and wondering what it could say. Obviously fishnislife is to long but I thought FSHNSLF might work, but would anyone even get it. So when I became a member of a forum years ago down in Cali I stuck with fishnislife because that is the way I feel about fishing. Fishing is life to me. No matter how tough a day can be on the water, I'm always happy just to be out and enjoying Mother Nature. Like life, in fishing you strive harder and harder to better yourself. No matter the outcome, whether good or bad, you still learn and strive to accomplish your goals over and over again. Even when the goal is obtained you are never really satisfied and you continue pushing the limits of expectations that you even set for yourself.
O.k. so maybe some of you just toss a line in the water and hope for fish. If so, the forward maybe a little deep for you. But if you truely are in tune with what is going on around you, you'll understand what I am talking about.
Geez, I sound like a hippie. And no, I don't do drugs. :compress:

Mine comes from college. I was the beer drinking champion during my college days. I beer bonged a 40 ouncer on a few occasions, which was kind of the highlight of the evening... I could also shotgun beer and chug a beer twice as fast as anyone.... Basically, I don't have a gag reflex, and it allows me to poor beer almost straight down my throat. So that is where mine comes from. Unfortunately, now that my college days are over, my "beer skills" are only revealed on special occasions! Cheers.

p.s. nice thread

AHHH Beerman, sounds like we had the same sort of college experiences. o:) We had a three story made of 3/4 tubing and a quart funnel.

"Bodofish" came about after many trips across the border into Canada. We'd go up and spend the minimum amout of time so we could buy booze at the duty free store. Huge saving when you're throwing a huge party! In an attempt to dodge the backup at Blaine we would do the crossing at Lynden. Shortly after crossing the border, we would get a huge kick out of a big sign at the driveway to a farm. The sign read:
Bodo Gretzky - Goat Farm Cooperative
Goat Milk
Goat Meat
Goat Skin
Goat Wool
Chickens and Eggs

Needless to say a few of us started to call each other Bodo and talk in a feigned eastern european accent. Back in those days a number of us guy's lived in a big house just down the street from WWU. As I started getting into fishing, Commercial and pleasure. The name changed to "Bodofish?" when I was comming from or going fishing. Going meant everyone in the house was going to be hungry for a while because I was the first to run out of money and was "just going to work for a couple quarters". Coming back meant the utilities would be up to date and we'd be eating good. So it went for a number of years while my buddies got degreed. The name Bodofish stuck.
Build a man a fire and he's warm for the night. Light a man on fire and he's warm the rest of his life!

mine came for the fact that i'm mainly a shore fisherman so most of the fish i catch are panfish. the first fish i caught was a sunfish and the last most likely will be a panfish of some sort. 80% of my tackle is for panfish which has gotten me in hot water with the wife alot over the years because the small hooks and lures seem to find their way in the carpets, washing machine, counter tops, etc. I panfish there for I am! <')//<

I have had the nickname skimpy since I can remember. I have 3 older brothers that are all taller than 6ft and weigh no less than 200lbs. Here I am standing maybe 5ft 10" and weighing in at about 140lbs, so they call me skimpy. My senior year in high school I wrestled at 122 and I acually weighed 119. That was 8 years ago. I have only gained about 20 lbs in 8 years. The funny thing is that I could probably eat more than all of them.:cheese:

How about this!
Once we get at least 25 names describing how they came up with their handle, we have a vote to see who has the most creative.
There will be prizes for the one voted "most creative handle".

Get your reason for choosing your handle in now. I know we have some pretty cool ones and this could go really fast. We already have 8 entries. Who will be choosen as the "most creative handle? Cool prizes await you.

My name is pretty simple. Smoke 3 packs of GPC brand cigarettes a day and the name kind of sticks with you...... LOL. No, its my initials. My name is garrett, so being in the same room as a derrick or jarrett talk about a lot of confusion. Then having one of your best friends names jarek, you dont know whos talking to who. So everyone calls me G. Then being as gpc all rhymes, you cant say g w/o the pc. Also thats how I sign my name and the 1st name I used to write a report on this site. So gpc it is

Oh, by the way.. .cigarettes are bad for your health.... tobacco leaves actually concentrate Polonium-210 from the soil (Po-210 is a decay product of natural, but radioactive, uranium that is present in all dirt and rock on this planet) and 2 pack a day smokers take about 8 REM per year in ionizing radiation dose from the Po-210 in the cigarettes they smoke. That's a lot. So, not only are cigarettes bad for your health they make you glow in the dark.

I chose my name from one of my favorite ways to fish. That is to use small boats on small rivers.

But for drifting it was always a pain to have to coordinate to take someone else with a vehicle for getting back to the starting point.

I eventually worked out the right combination of canoe and oars and paddles so I was able to row upstream but this only worked if I was on a little river. In my prime I could actually go right up rapids that were almost class 2. I'm older now and I've found it much more comfortable to use the larger drift style boats that are heavier and can't be used in that manner so I mostly work lakes and slow moving streams these days. But it's always fun to think back to when I could dominate a riffle by rowing my canoe upstream and right through the middle of it while watching the faces of the canoers who were drifting down the same riffle and wondering what the heck I was doing.

Fish doesn't smell "fishy" because it's fish. Fish smells "fishy" when it's rotten.

on the original forum i was on ( a crappie board) i wanted to be crappieking, but that was taken so i wanted to be crappieking 13 (my favorite #) but that was taken also, so i settled for crappieking14. then one day i couldn't log back in to my acount, so i was forced to make a new acount. i figured ck14 would be good because everyone on the board just started calling me that for short, now i'm ck14 on almost all the boards i'm on.

When I was in the world of archery, I used to shoot a fancy compound bow with mechanical release, string silencers, fall away arrow rests and all the other bells and whistles. The people around me started calling me "Gizmo Joe." I kind of didn't like that name because it was created for me as a slam against the way I shot. For some reason the people I was involved with were constantly berating everyone elses equipment. When my experiences in the archery community soured, I turned to muzzle loading. I sarted shooting replica black powder rifles and pistols with an entirely different group of folks. These folks were very friendly, and would never bad mouth anything that anyone else shot. They would actually help you to get better at shooting what ever equipment you chose. I suppose that because of the negative feelings I got about shooting in a "High Tech" archery community compared to the positive feelings I got from the "Low Tech" muzzleloading community, and because I was asked to choose a name for myself at one of the rendezvous I attended, I picked Lotech Joe. I liked it so much that I kept it. That was almost 20 years ago.

Being a cubicle dweller I’ve always been amused by the dilbert comics. Somehow the topics always seem way too close to what’s currently going on at work. I have a daily calendar at my desk and occasionally save individual squares from the comic that I find particularly funny or timely (like my avatar). I originally started using this name on another forum (homebrewing) and it has been my default name for new forums ever since. It doesn’t have a lot to do with fishing, but it does have a little to do with everything.

Here’s a collection of some of the other squares that I have around at my desk.

I received a request to post on how the "zen leecher" came to be. Two boards ago for Mike Carey (in 2001) we had a few guys on. One was the Trout Master and he was a lippy sort. lines. Not to be outdone I created the equally lippy zen leecher. The zen leecher would give zen sort of advice on fly fishing for trout.

Also, the zen leecher name had to do with a counter-intuitive way of getting trout to bite on leech imitations. When one is fishing woolly buggers or marabou leeches and the trout are going nip..nip..nip.. and everytime you set the hook there's no fish. When they are nipping, throw them some slack, wait a second and then lift up. The trout is there just about every time.

Very cool thread.. I always look at these names and wonder what the person was thinking at the time.
I use Quadradomus because I have always been a big fan of audio gear, audiophile sort of stuff. I was on a board at the time for people who collected Quad (4 channel stuff) For those of you too young, this was surround .sound as we have it today, but in 4 channel instead. Early 1970's. There were a guy who had "Quadzilla" which was what I wanted, so I came up with Quadradomus, thinking of Nastrodaumas. If you ever want to break into ANYTHING that I have out there, it is a sure start. Not sure of Nastro's spelling, sorry.
