What do you do with these Squawfish???
Does anyone know what to do with Squawfish that you catch? I heard you can turn them in for a reward because they are so destructive to the salmon young and eggs. I catch them all the time in my local river, the sammamish river or slough.

Kiil them, cut them up and feed them to the cray/craw/fish/dads/mudbugs.
The payment program is only in a couple specific rivers, like the Columbia in certain areas only. And you have to sign up BEFORE you go fishing the MORNING that you go fish for them.

Double bag them in used plastic grocery bags and freeze them whole. When you need bait for crayfish or crab take out what you need the night before and you're good to go.

Toss em into the bushes. Racoons need food too. Do not return them to the water alive.

Cut the belly and let the dads feed. Use them for your lawn/garden.

Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

As mentioned above they make really good fertilizer for your garden. I have also heard stips of their belly can be used for sturgeon bait.

I'd go with G-man's suggestions. Although, I'm not someone who loves northern pikeminnow, you wouldn't want to invite a citation or fine from a game warden because:fullstringer98 wrote:Love G-Man's idea, id rather do that than kill em with clubs on the spot.
1) Pikeminnow are classified as gamefish.
2) Intentional waste of fish including mutilation is illegal.
I can't say if a gamewarden would write you up, but he'd have a reason if he/she wanted to. Keep it and use it for bait or fertilizer later.
