PSA for Skykomish River

Post by natetreat » Thu Sep 08, 2011 4:22 am

I was up at the sky today all by myself. It was a lot of fun. It's super low, and I went up to reiter for a swim!

I have been getting fed up with all the line on the bottom. gets in the way of fishing. So I went swimming out there with a knife and a bucket.

I pulled up a LOT of gear from the bottom. Probably about five pounds of lead, line hooks and lures. The river was so low that I could wade more than halfway across. Up under the big rock was the biggest christmas tree I've seen yet, I pulled several Rvrfhsr spoons and Blue Fox spinners from the log underneath the big rock.

I also fished for a while and caught several dollies, some steelhead and some Jack Coho. And a zombie pink. In the mouth! Neverr seen that happen before. Heheheh. :) :bball:

So now, at least for a while, there should be about 50 yards of river that will be line free! There is still a lot more gear upstream that I saw, and I didn't even look at the highway side. They like the hardware over there. I ended up with over 100 good hooks, a lot of gami's and owners that weren't all rusty either! Some of the jigs were almost perfect, some will get retied, but still. The water is warm up there too. Had a great swim.

There's some of the gear I dragged up.

And even less of the weights and corkies and jigs after I've removed them from the rats nest. It's a lot of work, but worth it to me.

I'm going to fish with it! Hahahaha. I'll use the hooks that aren't rusty and melt the jigs down eventually. Really, all the owner hooks that came out were still sticky sharp. I know some of them were mine. I did get the one snag than ran for thirty feet behind the big rock too. It came up with about 40 different leaders.

Great idea for a hot day! Thanks Nate!=d>

Not meaning to hijack the threat, but did they ever find that guy that was missing on the Skykomish this last spring? He was suppose to be floating down from Monroe to meet some friends at a park downstream and never showed up. The water was real high at that time.

They did, just a couple weeks ago, they found his boat, divers found his body near the boat. I'll rummage around and see if I can find it again.

This is just below where the Skykomish(US 2) and Snoqualmie(I 90) rivers join, it becomes the Snohomish river at the confluence near Monroe(522/US 2) and heads NW from there. The Snohomish dumps into Puget Sound on the north end of Everett.

If this hot weather keeps up I think I may go up there again with a snorkle mask and get the highway side. It's a lot of fun seeing all the boulders and fish holding structure in gin clear water and stomp all over it. Besides I filled up a whole tackle box with a lot of gear. I reckon the gear alone was worth the gas money times two!

nice. plus, there's always E-Bay if you have an over-abundance of found gear.

I usually don't have to much spare time to post much, but I have been keeping up on the reports and forum whenever I can, but I want to also say thank you for doing what you could cleaning up the section of Reiter like you did... If everyone cared and did there part somehow or another the river systems & environment would benefit so much. If I see any garbage I have to pick it up, but some areas are just out of control. Living near 2 rivers I get reminded often that some don't understand the "pack it in, pack it out method". I bet a lot of the major fishing holes are littered with line, but the only way to ever get rid of it is finding a adventurous person like yourself and diving down and getting er done ! So you could have used that Machette down there also eh ?? ! =)
