J P Patches

Post by racfish » Mon Jul 23, 2012 9:54 am

J. P. Patches (Chris Wedes) passed away this AM. I grew up watching JP Patches every morning and afternoon from 1958-1981. He was Iconic when I was growing up. I remember when I was 8 yo and he wished my Happy Birthday on the ICU2Tv set. Travel in peace JP..

I was a Patches Pal - He read my name as well. The good ol days - Grandma would take me to Pike Place Market for actual Veggies and Fruit, JP Patches on the TV and if the wind was right I could hear the hydros from my front yard in Burien.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

Gertrudes name was Bob Newman. My parents went to Garfield with him. Gertrude,Ketchikan the Animal Man,Boris E Wort were all Bob Newman.I remember going to the innerbay garbage dump which is now the baseball fields of the U of W. We would dump our garbage there and I would look for JP's shack. lol... In my Cub Scout days I was on JP Patches,Stan Boreson and Capt Puget shows. LOL...
