algae blooms

Post by spoonman » Fri Mar 06, 2015 1:13 pm

I went up to go soak some bait at panther lake this morning. When i got to the lake, i noticed a sign saying the lake was experiencing a toxic algae bloom. The lake was almost totally covered in the stuff. The sign says the fish are still edible, but naw, ill pass. Went over to flowing and it has what looks like algae too. Its not posted, but something to keep an eye on. Ive never seen it do this this time of year. Must have something to do with the mild winter we have had.

I've been noticing that the green slim crap on Sawyer isn't as bad as it has been the past couple/few winters and springs. Hopefully it won't get as bad this spring.

Clear Lake Pierce County had a toxic algae bloom just this past December 2014

How long before it cleared up? Hope it doesn't last too long.

Can't tell. Last Aug or Sept there was a toxic algae bloom at American. In Jan. the sign was still there. On the Pierce County Health Dept. website it tells where they are but not when they aren't (stop).

I saw huge bloom on Green lake Okanogan Co two years ago. There was nothing posted at the lake but you could see it from the shore and it was really thick in places, less than 8" of visibility in lake that typically has about 12' visibility. Although we didn't eat any fish as it was catch release season, we caught an outrageous amount of trout on Wicked willies and flies and green rooster tails.

Fished flowing this weekend. The northwest corner has a thick layer of algae. There is some visible throughout the lake. Still not posted as of yesterday. Caught one little guy trolling a dick nite.
