I don't have any real tips for you other than get some warm fishing gear bc I recently moved here from TX. On a good note you are off to a good start by finding this forum... a lot of good info here. I would also recomend joining some fishing clubs... there are a few around here and that is the best way I know of to learn new water.

Sounds like your from warmer climates if you good at catching largemouth and crappie...Welcome to this site. I hope it helps you get going with your fishing quests in Washington.
Warmwater fish (a term you've probably never heard) include bass, crappie, panfish, etc., and while our state isn't as good at producing these species as what you are accustomed to in Florida, there are still some good lakes to fish for bass and warmwater fish all over the state. Bass are in about every lake, crappie you'll have to do some research to locate them.
Right now the bass fishing is pretty much halted. With this cold weather, the bass have retreated to deeper water and are hanging out and aren't really moving much. In about a month, these bass will start moving up in shallower water and you'll be able to target them with much better success because of the warmer water. Your going to realize that bass fishing down here is a different game (fishing with slower methods, ie plastics, jigs, etc., but spinnerbaits, cranks, topwater, will take bass as well) and your just going to have to adjust to it and gain some experience on it.
Of course, if you do have any questions, be sure to post em up here. There's also a bunch of other species of fish (trout, salmon, etc) that are either native or just live better in the colder water we have in Western Washington.

dixon768, welcome to the WL.com family.
You found the best place for info. on fishing around the state.
You also happen to be my neighbor. I live in Poulsbo. There is a couple of us on this site that live on the Pennisula. I'll put together a list a places to hit up around here. Maybe we can get out sometime and talk fish. Don't ever hesitate to ask questions around here. There are a lot of people who are happy to help out.
One of the first places I tell people to check out when moving here from another state is Bruce's Bassin' Essentials on the Home Page. He can lay it out very simple and has an amazing grasp of Washington Bass and how they act.
Check your PM.

dixon768, welcome to the lakes community. In case you have not figured it out, we are glad to have you here. You can search the lakes index by county and then look ar the lakes that are rated well. Read up a bunch, because I am sure that you will have hours and hours until season opening. Google Earth, Yahoo Maps, and Fishinislife are all valuable assets that you have to your disposal. Keep at it and you will be rewarded with some nice NW fishing.

dixon768,
First of all, a great big WELCOME to our site. When you open our site, scroll down a bit to the map of Washington. It shows all our counties. A good place to start for you would be to click on Kitsap county (I think that's your county) and start perusing the lakes that are listed. You can also check in Jefferson county or any other county within your range and check out the lakes in those places. If you like river fishing, you can check that out at the top of our page in the blue links bar in Reports. Then check out River Index. I hope (I know) your stay in our state will be rewarding. As said before, be sure to ask whatever questions you want. Be sure to check out your PM's (private messages) because a lot of information is not posted in the forums, but may be sent directly to you via PM's.
Again, welcome.

Welcome Dixon786. You wont find the HUGE florida strain LM, or a crappie fishery up here like down there. But there is defenitly crappie and bass to be had. There is also a whole lot of Small mouth up here as well. I dont really know anything about the part of the state that you live in, but fishnislife does and hes the bass man. POTHOLES RESEVOIR my friend. Its about 190 miles from seattle but I make the trip every year. Last year I only made it 6 times but its ussually closer to 10 or 12 times that I make the 3 hour drive every year. ESPN named it the best bass lake in the state. Its not uncommon to catch 50 crappie in a few hours there either.

I'm glad to say I have good news. You will have to forget everything you learned about bass in Florida and relearn the whole game. Fish sloooooowwww and small. Pull out the plastic worms instead of the waterdogs and shiners.
