Fishing Cutthroat in the Sammamish River?
Has anyone tried trolling the Sammamish River "the Slough" for cutthroat trout or rainbows this time of year? It can be really good because the fish race up the river to eat the incoming salmon smolt (coho, chinook, etc)...that run down from Issy Creek. I see it is a catch and release fishery, but nonetheless, I wonder if it's worth trolling a spoon or two with some weighted line or banana weight...what do you guys think?

I "thought" it was a closed area to fish...
Perhaps I'm wrong...
I dunno why it wouldn't work....Provided that it is legal to fish there...
Seems like your doing well enough in the big lake as it is...

RE:Fishing Cutthroat in the Sammamish River?
are u thinking of having us fish this area
RE:Fishing Cutthroat in the Sammamish River?
Nope Sam, it's open to fishing for trout, but everything must be C&R, and for good reason. I'm going to hit up Samammish on Sunday with fishingmachine, we'll post a report when we finish Sunday evening, even if we come up empty handed...I don't care, I have enough meat! I'd like to learn a new fishery, and I know the same tactics apply here as they do on LW. Do you know if areas off the Issy Creek (1000ft) are closed year round for trout, or just for salmon? This seems like a question you might know, or another member could shed some insight into it for me.Sam Kafelafish wrote:I "thought" it was a closed area to fish...

yeah how deep is the river
RE:Fishing Cutthroat in the Sammamish River?
8-13ft you'd have to plane board it. Can anyone explain to me what a plane board is, and how it works? There are tons at Cabelas. I'm just intrigued by the amount of cutties that would have to traverse that water to get between Lk. Sam and Lk. Wash.fishingmachine wrote:yeah how deep is the river

kutt what would we use back there
RE:Fishing Cutthroat in the Sammamish River?
I'd troll Rapala (perch), rainbow-jointed, flatfish, triple teasers...etc., problem would be the darn suckers. They are HUGE in there right now. They also eat a lot of the salmon smolt along with perch, cutthroat, etc...poor little salmon smolt...to make it back is a HUGE accomplishment, but to make it back as a 30-60 pound fish is a whole nother ball game.fishingmachine wrote:kutt what would we use back there

how far away is the river away from the launch
RE:Fishing Cutthroat in the Sammamish River?
I guess you'll never stop asking easy questions. It's right where you launch in Kenmore at the NE 68th ST. Bridge Upstream from there. Downstream from ther is considered Lake Washington. BTW, if anyone reads this and is taking there nice whaler for a ride, make sure not to cut the huge sandbar to the left by the green and red bouy markers - it's only 4-5 feet max thru there.., I made that mistake last year on my boat and about buried it in the sand...not cool when your engine pisses out sand not water.fishingmachine wrote:how far away is the river away from the launch

Just try to tone it down a little bit and be more patient. Sometimes I think you want an immediate answer and that is not always the case. Be patience, don't post silluy questions on this forum and respect other people's viewing priviliges because they have to see what you've been basically PM'ing membes via a forum. Got it bud?fishingmachine wrote:sorry for asking kk

Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.
