Instead of slinkies try hollowcore lead, you will find you loose alot less gear.

use what ever size shot best fits your cord.

Mallard - I find it the other way around. I lose less with slinkies than with hollowcore. If I lose 1 or 2 slinkies a day that's a lot. Hollowcore... used to hang up every couple of casts. Slinkies give a lot subtler feel of hitting the bottom than with hollowcore.

Yes, you are right about the slinkies hanging up less, but when you do get hung up real good with a slinky your chances of getting any of your rig back are slim to nill. When you get hung up with hallowcore, if rigged correctly, the lead will just pull free leaving you with the rest of your rig intact and all you need to do is crimp on another piece instead of having to retie.

And if drift fishing a river correctly you should not be constantly dragging the bottom with the lead, you should feel a tick every couple seconds with the correct amount of lead. I also like hollowcore because you can slightly more accurately get the proper wieght for the current in which you fish.

To each his own though. I just thought that I would throw the thought out there to curado because this is what works best for me.
