Secrets or tips to river fishing

Post by kinghunter » Mon Apr 06, 2009 12:46 pm

Wondering what secrets or tips others use that has worked for them. How do someone become the 10% that catches 90% of the fish? Am I just one of those weekend golfer that will never ever be able to break 80?

Your biggest allie is Patience.Patience and persistance is the key in my eyes.Like the Swede would say. You gotto get out and press the waters.Swede bonics 101.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

They say golf is a 4 letter word and correct me if I am wrong Kinghunter, but "fish" is 4 letters too. Just sayin. We just started fishing my friend, just like when we started golf together..I know, I know, I broke 80 first, but we'll get there. Be patient grasshopper.

I will stay lean on this one 2 pm the meds start over:cyclopsan
Number 1. fish with anglers much better then your skills sets are= much better at 25 applications:-$ not 1 or 2

Number 2. ride in a drift boat watch how the heads, mids and tails work and try to understand the flows by dropping light leaves, then smaller wood into these seams and watch how they react it will be much differnt under 3 feet of depths and more on how the material reacts.

Where is the Swede going with this is making your products to fly, bait , hardware, floats you name the game even size number 16 kwickfish create a strike.

Most will be who can make there personal package ((as natural as nature in truth and Reading waters is critical inside, outside the holding seams.)):-#

All fish are lazy its there DNA code to return and reach spawn not anglers and gear.

Its a life journey to do this and cannot be written period it must be earned from doing, searching and wanting more.

Why did all my trophy hogs but less then 6-8 come Via Drift boat or toon very simple Stealth fishing death in the upper holy waters most would never dare with sticks and reach.

Why did I do years of meat runs via sleds to get guys hooked up and fight a fish buy tearing up a river in a 400 plus horse power tub is not natural and impacts all as well as mother nature I was reduced to one beef working arm in truth and 2 dead legs so I had to.

You learn 50 plus River systems your a C Grade angler you learn 10 States 2 or 3 countries and catch fish 85 percent of the time your a finisher.

Masking the hatch not in word or fly makes you better in the salt, river, lakes or ditch meaning undertanding colors, vibrations , scents and more

Starting very early helps like any sport but I have made many cupcakes fish killers with only one word they understood (Passions):thumleft: talent can be earned from doing.=d>

You will get many to write tons of words on how and why that is easy, education helps all as well and understanding the fish you chase down to the scales level

Put the time in fish with much better anglers, chase anywhere the game calls, keep logs , notes= log each and every trip how did even the (weather) impact my day or fish counts?
Judge your flaws, strengths fish with a few pros, hike remote and one that will show all if your a top rod is salt, river, lakes, sewers you can find and catch fish when others can't then your learning curve is coming just like a mid 90's fastball that pitch goes deep into the lights just dont throw me junk my Swing will be sprung! lol

Its a lifetime not a few years to reach this some are very fast learners about 4 percent!

Tight Lines Fish on the Brain drain is beating my words!

There is always a better, best, good, average and below guts, grit thinking make that game not me.

If your always doing the same and your results are poor= change if you feel good that most did not hook hogs as well take up Golf8-[ ](*,)

Failure is not a option with Pirates who dare:-$

Last fishing is a sport not a bit differnt even then boxing do your leg work , work the heavy and speed bags, spar with better take some punishement give out some and remember each and all you will be rewarded some are greedy my best bud late last year gave me the best words I have heard in years

You are the most intense person I ever hunted, fished and watch this DNA will also cost me my life but the journey was worth the risks even now.

Golf is a option I respect a very tough nut to break but not for Viking Warrior

Take a kid show them showtime if you earned it!

Share and make others Dreams there Life Style

I agree with Swede but I think the #1 should be learning to read the water and by doing this knowing where to place that cast or even fish at all for that matter. I lived in a town where the John Day river flowed through and they had some great steel head runs and only after many days/hours/weeks could I go catch fish regular. In the summer get on smaller unpounded rivers and creeks and chase some trout this is a great way to practice and you can use the same gear just smaller hooks.

Another thing I would like to add is don't skimp on a GREAT pair of polarized sun glasses they make a great diff in seeing fish, snags and eddies.
A fisherman= A JERK ON ONE END OF A FISHING POLE WAITING FOR A JERK ON THE OTHER!!
Hello, my name is Tim and I am addicted to fishing!

I have a tip. Dont fall in

Or what I learned. Don't fish a river with your back facing up stream after the rains. Those logs will take you out.
I won't kill anything less than a meal

watch the older guys and some kids. also throw something that others aren't example last year fishing for sivers on the wallace 4 older guys fished this 65yard long slot with corkie and yarn, bait, jigs, jigs on float, bait on float, hardware, and just a yarnie in common colors: pink, purple, chartruce, black, orange. to no avail nothing. i knew there were fish in there, so i went across the river with a uncommon color that only fly fisherman use 2nd cast fish on lost it and everyother cast fish on. that color was blue. What iam saying is that just because you see everyone throwing one thing change it up. that might land you a punch on your card or packing it in early.
If it looks fishy, Then fish it, If it dont look fishy, fish it anyways. <')}}}}><

Fish where there's fish. Research the run timing of the rivers that you want to fish. Look at the return and catch statistics. Anadramous fish don't live their entire lives in the river. You want to be there when they come back from sea. You can fish the best runs in the river with the best gear on the planet, but if the fish aren't there you lose. Read the first sentence several times.
Life's short - fish hard!

Found my best coast Buck Metalhead on a puffer stick that would be a fly to the Greenies:-#
Picture a little worse for the wear/done on the puffer stick Bogy Fish
I was out of fighting condtion but heavy into Killing shape a lean 265lbs:colors: LMAO and the Buck came in at 23.5lbs on the fly.

Wilds were fair game not just one I then and I took this buck and now will have a glass reproduction to match the hatch on my growing walls of fish and soon:-$

Oh and I cleaned up the other and dropped her down to 245lbs 32 waist at 40 years young nothing worse then a sliding, slipping fish Killer.

Might have been one of my most technical fish to land in the top 10 for sure!
Excuse the blood hunting, fishing fighting it always finds me :eye: :cyclopsan

Was pushing the harder flows

and deeper seams on this guy! Big Pink and Chartruse combo

I Looked back at my kid on the stool and yelled back fear not daughter Pops I am bleeder:eye:

Were just getting warmed up now he will taste the power of Swede 8-[ =p~

Bottom line we planted both size 12's and finished late and strong not another backward step and a whole bunch of Black folks starting yelling Swede#-o They liked a Finisher who was punished but did not quit

I was a boxer puncher but age had humbled the boxing skills some I had lighting fast hands with power so we brought out my hero Big George Forman:-$ the grill master style:cyclopsan

Age is a number here is me last Summer Current AGE= 53 same waist a little less Beef 244lbs 9 percent fat but I was fighting much bigger beast then fighters my own life which finally turned on me.

Metalheads ? Straight free drifting/boon=dogging candy roe and shrimp make sure your pounding the bottom and lines are in the correct postion with your drifting tub!

I like Watermelon and Candycane smaller Stacked corkies on that system with pink and chartruse yarn , scent on all and each..:-$

Springers back bouncing down into them slowly with baitdivers, mag=wiggle warts or wrapped Kwickfish to finish!

She might go out as well????
